Nouveau Frienship Bracelets and Cuffs

Last year I went to Portland and I was going through boxes of my old things.  I found my old yearbooks, I found some old other things that many people exchange at that same time- friendship bracelets!  But since I've become such a knitter and crocheter, it struck me that I could do these wonderful bracelets on a larger scale.   I'll have to take pictures of the old ones that I made and my mom so kindly preserved for me.  I also found many other treasures- books mostly- that I was thinking of selling on eb ay!  For instance, did you know that a copy of Heidi can be worth $60 ? I think that it has something to do with the date being misprinted on it.   This is from the pattern I found on Purl Bee's website I made some friendship bracelets, one of them from the pattern I found on The Purl Bee's website    and the others I did from memory after looking at the older bracelets I'd made back when these were all the rage.  Next I'm going t...

Crocheted lace

This lace parasol is simply beautiful!! I want it...in black or purple.  I love how the blogger drew out the design after being inspired by the parasol! It's from her post : Lace Inspiration  - url included in case the link doesn't work:  http://la-belle-helene-journal.blogspot.com/2011/08/lace-inspiration.html

Crocheted Dresses found on Pinterest

http://www.40forever.com  and  http://gallery.ru   both links are in order of the pictures. I did find them on pinterest, but these can be found on these websites. These two were on the Crochet board of Pinterest, didn't really say who the designers are, but I like 'em & they both could be figured-out (or close-enough approximations) without too much difficulty.

Craft Yarn Council's Yarn Weight System Chart

Standard Yarn Weight System & Recommended hook/needle sizes Very helpful link for recommended knitting needle sizes and crochet hook sizes for each weight of yarn, plus the general gauge you will get with each.  Also helpful to know if you want to break the "rules"... then you know what the recommended size is for each yarn and you can go up, or down a size or two, depending upon the effect you are aiming to get with your project.

Lightening Bracelet

You can make this with worsted weight and a 5 mm crochet hook or dk yarn and a smaller hook, for a smaller bracelet. You can even use bulky weight yarn and make it long enough for a belt- but you might want to use a little smaller hook than recommended on the yarn label so it is stiff-er like a belt.  I used a beautiful "house-blend" from Portland's Yarnia for this bracelet. Chain 18 Row 1- 2 triple crochets (tc) in the 3rd chain from hook, and 2 double crochets (dc) in same chain. Turn. Row 2-chain 2, in the last stitch from prev. row (double crochet) work 2 triple crochets, and 2 double crochets. Turn. Row 3-and all remaining rows: repeat row 2 until you get the length you want and pull yarn thru, to secure.   You can now make 15 chain stitches for ties at this end.

Fast & Easy Pattern for a Hat

Crochet Tibetan Hat pattern
I think that the brick stitch would make a nice hat. Or if you live somewhere warm, maybe a dishcloth... Chain multiples of 4, plus 3 for a turning chain.   Brick Stitch Pattern  Make the foundation chain, and three extra chains to turn. Row 1. Work 3 D.C. in 4th ch. from hook. * Skip 3 ch., 1 S.C., 3 ch., and 3 D.C. in the next ch. Repeat from * across row, and end 1 S.C. Row 2. Ch. 3 and turn. Work 3 D.C. in the S.C. of previous row. * 1 S.C. in the space made by ch. 3 of previous row, ch. 3, and 3 D.C. in same ch. 3 of previous row. Repeat from * across row. End with 1 S.C. Running in Circles

I've finished my free-form crochet table runner, or centerpiece. It's a gift for a friend, but I'm liking it so much that I'll probably do another couple and will write out a pattern for it too at some point. I want one in black and white, purple and olive , and red, black and white. This would be a great rug if you did it with wool in dark colors, or felted. So many possibilities....
